Aquanauts of Clear Lake
Texas' Premier Synchronized swim team since 1964
The Aquanauts of Clear Lake (ACL) is a non-profit year round synchronized swim team.
We are located in the Clear Lake area, home to NASA.
Aquanauts was formed by Jan Armstrong - wife of Neil Armstrong, at the Keys Club Pool in El Lago, TX in the summer of 1964. In 1965 the team started summer training, local competition and Junior Olympics. In 1994 it became a year round team, when coach Jeanette Chase retired from her full time job. We have been honored to have Astronauts, their children, and wives involved along with many NASA families in the Clear Lake Area.
The swimmers practice for about seven and a half hours every week and are dedicated to improve in this sport.
Practice pool: Williams Indoor pool
Calendar : August to June (as per CCISD calendar)
Tuesday 5:00 to 7:30 pm Friday 5:00 to 7:30 pm Saturday 8:30 to 11:00 am
ACL promotes the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of the young girls. W
With the time that they spend together helps build strong relationships and friendships. It has become like a large family.
Girls have fun while learning how to be good team players.
They learn how to set goals and achieve their goals.
Our coaches provide a supportive, welcoming atmosphere for swimmers of all ages to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally while participating in a rewarding and competitive sport that will equip each swimmer for life in and out of the water.
Our coaches work diligently with the girls.
Head coach – Jeanette Chase has been coaching for over 50 years.
Our coaches not only have extensive knowledge but are great role model for the girls.
Another benefit is the girls can get PE waiver in school as we have been able to offer Off Campus PE Credit (CCISD, Friendswood) for over 18 years, upon approval of Parent applications.
Aquanauts of Clear Lake offers synchronized swimming to girls of all ages and ability levels.
Mid-season registrations are accepted space permitting, with coach permission.
For additional information please contact Coach Jeanette Chase.
The girls spend the fall learning basic skills and the winter combining those skills into routines. In the spring they attend regional, zonal and national competitions. Increasing confidence and teamwork and having fun are the major goals of this program.
The first year may be spent learning basic skills and techniques. As the swimmer develops muscle control and grace, confidence will be built through team identity and competitive experience.
Synchronized swimming meets are held approximately once a month, beginning in December.
Swimmers compete in the following age categories: 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-15, 16-17, and 18-19. Your swimmer's competitive age is determined by how old she will be in the year of the competititions, even if her birthday is not until December. So, if your swimmer is born in November 2003, and she is on the competitive team in 2017, she will be in the 13 - 15 age group.(subtract the year of birth from the current competitive year 2017 - 2003 = 14) These age categories are standard throughout USA Synchro.
Aquanauts competes at the local, regional, zone and national levels. Usually, all swimmers compete in local meets. The first, second, and third place winners, qualify to attend the next level of competition. The more skilled a swimmer becomes, then the greater opportunity there is for travel.
